What is Twitter? 

Twitter is a "service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and
stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages.  People
write short updates, often called "tweets" of 140 characters or fewer. These
messages are posted to their profile or blog and sent to their followers."

 

In practical terms - you subscribe to "follow" John by signing up (via the
web or text message). On a regular basis John (yes, John!) will drop you a
short note about what he's doing, what's going on and what's new on his
website. You can choose to receive these updates as a text message on your
phone or on your own Twitter web account.
